Https (SSL) is a method of securing your website and it's content. You might know it as that little green padlock that appears in the address bar of your web browser to inform you that the website you are using is secure. This is not only important to you but also to Google as it's now also a ranking signal.
You can implement this yourself but our recommendation is that you seek specialist help as it can become quite complex, especially if you run into problems.
Also, SSL certificates can be quite costly if you make the wrong choice but the cost for a basic certificate is well worth the ranking and trust gain in our opinion.
